Turn wood into a practical place to park your phone and enjoy its sound. These wooden phone amplifier plans and printable templates guide you through building a passive amplifier that uses an internal wooden chamber to direct sound forward, without electricity, batteries, electronic speakers, or hardware.

Choose a clean rectangular body or add the optional sculpted sides for a curved, decorative finish. Place your phone in the top slot and let the internal horn help project its sound.

Materials you'll need

• Core section: 7" × 6" × 2" thick
• Top panel: 7-1/4" × 6-1/4"x 1/2'' thick
• Bottom panel: 7-1/4" × 6-1/4"x 1/2'' thick
• 3/8"x 3/8th long wooden dowel
• Optional sculpted version: two additional side pieces approximately 1-1/8" thick

The oversized top and bottom panels make alignment during glue-up easier and are trimmed flush after assembly.

Tools and supplies used

• Bandsaw,
• Scroll saw or jigsaw
• Table saw
• Miter Saw
• Drill or drill press
• Router with a 1" flush-trim bit and 1/8" roundover bit
• Sanding tools, files, and/or rasps
• Spray adhesive and wood glue

Two ways to build it

Rectangular version: Keep the body as a clean block, sand it smooth, round over the edges, and apply your preferred finish.

Sculpted version: Add the optional side pieces and use Template C to shape the curved profile. Choose the version that suits your tools, experience, and preferred look.

Your files can be downloaded after purchase and printed using a standard printer. Print every template at 100% / Actual Size to preserve the intended dimensions.

Phone fit and sound

Phone dimensions and speaker locations vary between devices and cases. The slot is designed to accommodate a range of common phones, but fit will depend on your device and case.

The amount and character of amplification will vary with your phone, speaker placement, wood species, and construction. This is a passive wooden amplifier, not an electronic speaker.
